Janet Jackson will perform a medley of her greatest hits to open the American Music Awards.
Will she call attention to her infamous performance at the Super Bowl? Probably not.
ABC will air the American Music Awards from 8 to 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22.
The scheduled performers include Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Green Day, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Lady Gaga, Eminem, Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez, the Black Eyed Peas, Daughtry and Adam Lambert.
Janet Jackson could take her brother Michael Jackson’s place for some of the concerts he was due to perform at London’s O2 Arena, it has been reported.
The four remaining members of the Jackson 5 may also appear as a backing band if some of the 50 scheduled shows go ahead despite the 50year-old’s death.
Promoters are said to be in talks with Michael Jackson’s siblings about filling in at some of the concerts, and may also be considering honouring all the dates by projecting a digital image of Jackson onto the stage.
A source told The Sun: “A number of discussions have taken place, and things are looking hopeful. Jackie, Tito, Jermaine and Marion have been approached as well, with the idea that they would perform as the backing band.”
The idea is said to be among a number being considered by AEG Live, who face huge losses if the shows are scrapped.
Backing musicians, dancers and elaborate special effects are already in place for the series of shows, which are due to start on July 13 and run until next March.
Promoters have announced that full refunds will be available to fans who wish to cancel their tickets, but refused to comment on reports that the shows may go ahead with replacement performers or digital imagery.
Janet Jackson paid tribute to Michael at the Black Entertainment Awards in Los Angeles.
“To you Michael is an icon,” she told the audience. ” To us, Michael is family. He will forever live in all of our hearts.”
